Add a single drive or create Stand-alone drive

marcos_fire
Hi Mark / Nia,

I am getting a bit paranoid playing around with this stuff called MHVTL  !
I have a query... or two  !

> Can we create a single standalone drive using device config file or GUI ?
> Can we add/remove/alter a device in an exsiting library configuration ?

I can't find a way to do that in MHVTL.... might be the version (1.2.1) doesn't have that feature !

PS: My gaming hours have dropped significantly ... and MHVTL hours have gone up....way up  !!

edit device.conf and remove the entry that dictates which library/slot it belongs to.. (I'll look the entry up tomorrow if you can't find it)

Restart the daemons.

Use the 'vtlcmd xx load' command to 'load' virtual media in a stand alone drive

Cheers

If you are still running version (1.2.1), then I recommend updating to the latest release.

You can also always modify  mhvtl config files under /etc/mhvtl to suite your requirement or use recent versions of the GUI to do so also.

Hi Mark,

So once I create a stand alone drive by modifying the device.conf, can I configure it as a standalone device in NetWorker or any other Backup software and use the application's mount/unmount command to load/unload the tape ?

BTW thnx for the idea....  !!
