MHVTL - st0 failed to read

azazzaro
Good Morning,
I have a problem with the virtual library, some backup of about 600GB, at the end of /var/log/kern.log fail and I find the following error:

Sep 24 06:59:59 vm-mhvtl kernel: [138672.287845] st0: Failed to read 65536 byte block with 8192 byte transfer.
Sep 24 06:59:59 vm-mhvtl kernel: [138672.298391] st0: Failed to read 65536 byte block with 8192 byte transfer.
Sep 24 06:59:59 vm-mhvtl kernel: [138672.299418] st0: Failed to read 65536 byte block with 8192 byte transfer.
Sep 24 06:59:59 vm-mhvtl kernel: [138672.299942] st0: Failed to read 65536 byte block with 8192 byte transfer.
Sep 24 06:59:59 vm-mhvtl kernel: [138672.312220] st0: Failed to read 65536 byte block with 8192 byte transfer.

How can I fix?
Thanks

These errors are typical when trying to read a tape using the incorrect block size. It looks like you wrote the backup using 64k blocks, but reading using an 8k buffer.

As you have not indicated the application used to perform the backup, I can't offer anything more.

Note: the error is derived from the st driver - not mhVTL. I doubt the request even made it through to the vtl

Hello,
thanks for your reply.
The software used for the HP Data Protector backup is on the drive I have the following settings:
Block size: 64kb (adjustable from 8 to 1024)
segment size: 2000MB (adjustable from 10 and up)
Disk agent buffers: 8 (adjustable from 1 to 32)

What parameters should be set to avoid the error?
Thanks so much

HP DP is something I have no experience. With luck, somebody else on this list will be able to assist.

Or a HP forum :)
