One tape is broken 'MOVE MEDIUM from Element Address 1007 to 501 Failed'

thu
Hallo,
can someone give me a hint? All the mhvtl-tapes work right, even the backup on them, but this one tape (8) doesn't go into a drive (ModeSense error).

How could you delete the current 8 tape and re-create it? There is no data on the tape.

Tommi

[root@cent-vtl ple-vtl]# mtx -f /dev/sg9 load 8 1
Loading media from Storage Element 8 into drive 1...mtx: Request Sense: Long Report=yes

In front of a real keyboard.

Thanks for the 'lsscsi' output. It rules out the mistake of running 'mtx' against a tape device instead of a medium changer (can't tell you how many times I've made that mistake :( )

Can you please provide the /etc/mhvtl/device.conf & /etc/mhvtl/library_contents.* files.

If that all looks good, I may ask for the /var/log/messages after you reproduce the error - or you can provide now anyway.

My immediate guess would be that the media type is not suitable for the drive type.

How could you delete the current 8 tape and re-create it? There is no data on the tape.
Simply remove the directory under /opt/mhvtl/<barcode>
e.g. If the barcode is E00010L4, then:
# rm -r /opt/mhvtl/E00010L4

Then stop and re-start mhVTL via
/etc/init.d/mhvtl stop
/etc/init.d/mhvtl start

The rc scripts will read the /etc/mhvtl/library_contents.* files, and create any media that is 'missing' (using the default values from /etc/mhvtl/mhvtl.conf)
