Real World Scenarios - MHVTL to simulate EMC Networker 7.6.1 and Sun SL48

cchinchoy
I have a live environment that utilizes Sun StorageTEK SL48 with two HP SCSI LTO4 drives. My server is a Sun X4270 x86 system running Solaris 10. I am using EMC Networker 7.6.1. I would like to simulate as close as possible and was wonder about the library and drive configuration. I went into Device.conf and changed the vendor identification to SUN and the product Identification to SL48 and restart the MHVTL. I say the library come up. I also changed the drives. My question is this, if I have the mhvtl started and reporting the library and appropriate drives, am i to assume that the system correctly came up without me needing the identification String, because I really don't know where to put that either. Any and all guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

I have the Sun SL48 and I hope this is legit not just showing up as a text marker. If Mark reads could he assist me in validating that this would work as I want to move forward with the subject solution.

What sort of assistance are you looking for ?

There is little customization performed by the SMC module. i.e. No matter what SCSI Inquiry string you configure, it behaves the same.

You will need to check NetWorker's hardware compatibility matrix to confirm this is a supported Library model.

Note: The emulation will be changing over time. I'm currently working on the tape drive emulation and will move onto the library emulation sometime in the future.

Cheers
