I have tested NetBackup 6.5.5 successfuly with mhvtl-2010-01-28 (mhvtl-0.18-2) presented as iSCSI running on a differnet Linux host. See viewtopic.php?f=23&t=32
I had access to 2 Robots and tape drives from each - 4 SDLT, 4 IBM drives ..
all working good with no problem.
Here are some screen shots:

Any ideas why mhvtl is not working with NetBackup 6.5.0, or I am wrong. It took me 2 days testing (not only iscsi, but local installed mhvtl) and nothing. Finally decided that I need to go for 6.5.5 and everything went green with the starting of the services...... ? The host is SLES 11 x64. I have another host with Solaris 10 x64 and again NetBackup 6.5.0. Will upgrade also and if it go green, will officially claim mhvtl not working on 6.5.0

BTW: Are you using Encryption ? it says, it needs 6.5.2 or higher for that, other than that, it should work fine as All mhvtl code development is tested using NetBackup.
What problems have you encountered ?

No, no encryption. The strange is that scan -tape returns only passthru device files and for non-rewind returns "-". I was not able to fix it and I think this shows the problem. Even the Device Wizard says the drives have limitations, but none were listed in the details. As I said everything just worked after 6.5.5 upgrade.
Updated mappings to the latest edition before upgrade - still nothing.

Have you tested with different Library or drive emulation ?

T10000B and default ULT3850. I don't think that it is in the drive emulation. Also I don't think that this is that important. It works fine with 6.5.5 and 6.5 is quite old, but felt I must mention it on the forum.

I agree .. 6.5.0 was the initial GA release anyway, so who knows who's fault it is NBU or MHVTL

If you review the NetBackup h/w & OS compatibility guides, you will see SLES 11 is not supported as master/media server with NetBackup 6.5.
In fact, there is a change in /sys layout that breaks the way NetBackup probes and detects devices.
NetBackup 7.0 is the officially supported version for SLES 11.
FWIW: EMC NetWorker also has problems with later kernels with this change in /sys format. I don't know what versions work / don't work.
And sorry, I can't recall the exact change in /sys.
